Helping Maxeys' Community Cats Through Compassionate Care

The Maxeys Cat-itude Adjustment Initiative is a community effort focused on safely reducing our community (once known as feral) cat overpopulation through Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) practices in partnership with local volunteers and the Humane Society

What is the Maxeys Cat-itude Adjustment Initiative?

Carrie Hayes and Cynzia Sanchez are working together with the Lake Oconee Humane Society to help address the growing community cat population in Maxeys. Through the humane Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) efforts, over 22 cats have already been safely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and returned to their original areas.

This initiative helps:

  • Prevent overpopulation
  • Improve quality of life for community cats
  • Reduce future strain on shelters and rescues
  • Support healthier neighborhoods

How it Works

Humane Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR)

  • Humane traps are used to safely collect community cats
  • Cats are spayed or neutered and vaccinated through the Humane Society program
  • Cats are returned to the area they were found

This proven approach helps stabilize cat population while allowing community cats to remain in familiar environments.

Bake Sale Contributions

Being trapped can be scary for our little friends and the best way to keep them calm is to cover the trap once they're inside.

The Humane Society is always seeking handmade trap covers so if you sew and would like the pattern, please let us know.
